A Review Of The 5 Megapixel Camera On The Outstanding HTC Desire S by Chris Westley
The HTC Desire S is a smartphone which builds upon the winning formula of the original HTC Desire. It boasts a number of performance upgrades, including the camera. In this article, I will see how the HTC Desire S fairs as a camera phone.
The camera is a one of the most important aspects for many users when choosing a new smartphone. At 5 megapixels, the camera on the HTC Desire S may not be up to the standard of many newer smartphones, which tend to have an 8 megapixel unit, but it still has the ability to produce pleasing results.
The resolution of the camera on the HTC Desire S is 2592x 1944, and it is this resolution that dictates the quality of the resulting images. In the case of the Desire S, the resolution is of typical of a 5 megapixel camera, and the resulting images are of very good quality. The resolution means that the pictures have high levels of detail and clarity, and they are displayed nicely on the screen, thanks to the 16 million displayable colours of the S-LCD capacitive touchscreen.
The camera comes with a list of image enhancing features as standard, and when used properly users can enjoy a decent level of customisation of their photos. Autofocus, touch-focus, image stabilisation and a single LED flash are all included, and most of these can be set to automatic, so they world behind the scenes to increase the quality of images whilst keeping the task of taking them as simple as possible. These features are easily access from the simple interface of the camera application which is actually a part of the HTC Sense UI.
The camera is also capable of capturing video footage as an alternative to snapping still images. With video recording available in resolutions of up to 720p (high definition), the quality of the videos is equally, if not more impressive than that of the still images. Additionally, there is a secondary camera located on the front of the handset, and this can be used for video calls with contacts with compatible smartphones, and it can also be used for taking self portrait photos.
There are several other aspects of this phone which contribute to its effectiveness as a camera phone. For example, its powerful 1 GHz processor allows the camera application to load quickly, and operate smoothly, with images captures almost instantly after the capture button has been pressed. The screen is also an important feature of the HTC Desire S when it comes to using the camera. As discussed, it allows users to view their handiwork with good levels of display quality, and as the screen is where the photos will be viewed the majority of the time, users can be safe in the knowledge that they are being displayed to their full potential.
There are several other aspects of the HTC Desire S which are impressive, but the camera function really stands out. Although it may not be the most advanced camera phone out there, the HTC Desire S makes a good choice for those who are looking for an easy to use, versatile device with a good camera.
